Abstract

Based on a recently completed PhD study, this paper, presented at the July 2017 EPTA Conference draws from ethnographic ecclesiological research conducted between 2011 and 2017 on the leadership and organizational culture of the British Assemblies of God (AoG). The approach to inquiry is briefly outlined and analytical insights from field research are presented with associated underpinning conceptual considerations drawn from a trilateral lens of ecclesiology, organization studies and sociology. The research took place at a crucial time of significant leadership and organizational transition for AoG and as the study neared its completion a series of critical incidents occurred that were illustrative of the leadership and culture paradigm issues addressed in the thesis. This paper concludes with the key findings and considerations for the future leadership of the denomination.
