Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show how neoliberalism is mainly driven by an ‘imperial preference’, entailing delimitation of designated space for deployment of its violence, but how ecological disorganization is the designated space par excellence for deployment of this violence. Building on standard analyses of the violence of neoliberalism, and specifically the global imperialism of corporatism, we aim to render the specific ways in which recent episodes of environmental violence (from the Grenfell Tower and Deep-Water Horizon tragedies, to Congo’s mineral conflicts, to ‘clean energy’ pollution in China) are immanent to the imperial project of neoliberal globalization, whose raison d’etre is to conquer and to subjugate all, in order to pre-empt any emancipatory action from the colonies of capital.
