Abstract
The WHO definition no longer relates to the population for whom osteoporosis drugs are recommended.
Confusion about what osteoporosis is, and what bone density scan results mean, contributes to poor treatment uptake.
A consistent international approach to diagnosis is essential to reduce confusion and promote treatment adherence.
